One could not overlook the Lollo brothers in any football discussion.
All tricky players, Percy, Harold, Alf and Les. Percy had a dummy that
would leave the best of them standing. Harold Lalla still referees the
Club games in Charters Towers. An amusing incident happened last year
when the Junior Estates from Townsville were playing a. Junior
Representative team from Charters Towers. Harold Lollo had the
whistle, and there had been light rain falling on and off during the
match. The two Junior teams, as a joke, arranged to get Harold (the
Ref.) at the finish of the match. Harold was, of course, in spotless
white shorts and sweater and somehow he smelt a rat and as soon as he
blew the full time whistle made a bee line at top speed for the
sideline. One of the wingers, unfortunately for Harold, was too speedy
and brought him down with a flying tackle. Needless to say his white
ref. outfit was a sorry mess when they had rolled him several times in
the mud.
