Published 2002 by Nundah & Districts Historical Society Inc.
This book has been published on the history of the suburbs of Brisbane: Nundah, Northgate, and Virginia. The Nundah area was originally known as German Station prior to 1882. The book’s focus is the buildings and institutions of the district rather than the people. There are photos in the book of both people and places. Nonetheless many people are mentioned in connection with these buildings and institutions. Even if your family from this district are not mentioned, the book is useful to family historians as the history of the buildings and institutions provides a window through which we can view everyday life of those times (where they learned, earned, worshipped, relaxed etc). The book is available from the Nundah & Districts Historical Society. It can also be found in the library of the Brisbane City Council.
To assist family historians, this index to people mentioned in the book (both historical and contemporary) has been prepared by David Horton (dhorton@iprimus.com.au), a relative of the Bridges family who were among the early settlers of this area. This index is intended to complement the book, and as the copyright of the book rests with its authors, he is unable to provide photocopies or transcriptions from the book. Please report any errors you find in the index to David.
David is researching the following family names in the Nundah area:
Albury, Buckby, Bridges, Goss, Jordan, Schattling, Sutton.
Please contact David if you think you may have a family connection. You can also visit his family history WWW site.
The index is sorted by surname, then by given name, then by page number.
When using this index, please note that names appear as in the book itself. As a consequence:
