comments: the burial register does not exist. The present caretaker Mr E Newlove has marked some of the oldgraves with concrete blocks and written the known details in the wet concrete. These probably won't stay legible for long as they will have soil washed down the hilll which will cover them. There are 4 newly dug graves in the cemetery without monumental inscriptions.

Ingoldsby

first settlement of ingoldsby district in late 1870s/1880s.
Predominantly German, also English, Welsh and Irish.
Originally known as Mudering Gully, from 1840s where as a reprisal against aborigines, shepherds left a poisened bag of flour for the tribe, and mmany died.
Also known as Wonga Creek, and name changed to Hessenburg around 1894- 1897. Name changed again to Ingoldsby in 1917.

Ingoldsby Lutheran was built before 1894. In 1972 the building was removed to Ipswich for use of the church there. Other religions included Roman Catholic and Churchof England. Later Apostolic appeared and attended church in Ropeley.
Ingoldsby state opened in Jun 1894 (delayed because of floods). Originall Hessenburg Provisional School, and renamed Ingoldsby State School June 1917.

The road approaches Spicers Gap over Stockyard Plain. spicer's peak towers up on left. Top of peak issymmetric triangular, bare with horizontal striations.

New South Wales

Goondiwindi few thousand old, new, lawn beam, war memorial. earliest 1911 that we saw
Hebel - not tiny, not huge
Lightning Ridge - large 1000-2000, a couple 1911, but most are recent. Many newish wooden crosses, and many of these marked unknown.
Bourke - ~2000 old section denominational  (inc Chinese and Muslim/Afgan) stone headstones readable, iron ones were too rusty. Includes Fred Hollows with memorial.
Nyngan - denominational (inc Chinese) ~1000 with newer section grassed and lawn beams. Generally all very readable.
Silverton - huge 42 acre in salt bush. Graves are spread all over, and it seems outside fenced area. ~200 headstones, but very spread. well preserved. 1890-1925 were what we saw
Broken Hill - huge (bigger than Lutwyche) 20000. Dates fron 1895 to present. plust special childrens section (nice and grassed compared to dust bowl for rest). Denominational sections. no lawn section, nor columbarium that we saw.


Sofala - (1) on southern entry is the current cemetery starting about 1891, (2) on Uper Turon road (perhaps above a chinese settlement. Older graves 1876, 1881 etc and some into 1900s, (3) around Anglican church near catholic school. These date from 1851.
Dubbo (Old)- very large >10000? regularly laid out and close.
Geurie - off road a bit, large allocated space. ~200 in what appears to be sections. Many are grouped by one name.
