William John FINLAY was born in Broughshane, Antrim, Ireland on 10 June 1839. His father Samuel was a school teacher.

William married Mary TAYLOR in 1862 at Bellywaney, Antrim. Mary was born in Belfast, Antrim in 1840. They were blessed with ten children, five boys and five girls. Their eldest, David, was born in Ireland. Mary, Samuel and William predeceased them.

The four girls married Moggillities:

Rebecca		m     Harry HALLETT
Hannah		m     Jim HUCKER
Annie Eliza	m     Fred SUGARS
Harriet		m     Percy SHERRIN

William operated a dairy farm at Lesley Hill. The family were closely associated with the Moggill Methodist Church and the Moggill State School.

William was laid to rest in Moggill Cemetery on 25 September 1905 and Mary on 16 July 1909.
