In Deep Gully: When a school was erected at Deep Gully there was some confusion over the name and the area was then renamed ROPELY. Further up the Gully into the hills another school was also built in 1902 on the property once belong to CLT Dionysius. This area was given the name ROCKSIDE. Many German families lived in this area and the Ropeley Lutheran Church in 1923 became one of the largest Lutheran congreations in Qld.

In 1914 a Queensland Lutheran Conference was held at Ropeley and was reported in The Australian Lutheran (a newspaper now available on CD-ROM). Read about the conference here (see pages 5-6). Note that the article uses the "Ropely" spelling.
